Music and Winter Wellness: Fuel Your Inner Fire!

By carefully tending to the embers of a fire, we can maintain the fire for cooking, warmth, or signaling for help. The fire helps to keep us safe and healthy. Just like tending the embers of a fire to keep it going, we must do the same for our bodies and minds. Even the smallest acts of self-nourishment and self-care like focusing on our breath or listening to music can fuel our inner fire.

It’s that time of year where the weather and limited sunlight can put a damper on our mood and energy levels. Make time for some self-care during this winter season and join Hannah for a 90-minute music and wellness class to refuel your inner fire. No prior music experience or knowledge is required to benefit from this class!

Participants will take part in music-based experiences such as music-assisted relaxation exercises, music and art creation, music-supported meditation, and guided imagery to promote stress management, resilience, and creative exploration.

The therapeutic use of music can:

  • Promote relaxation and self-care.
  • Be a healthy coping strategy and distraction from stressors and worries.
  • Be a way to express emotions and release feelings of stress and tension.
  • Reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness
  • Decrease symptoms of anxiety, depression, and chronic pain
  • Increase self-awareness.

There will be portions of the workshop where you may want to lay/sit down on the ground while listening to music. Please bring whatever you’d like for maximum comfort for sitting/lying down on a wood floor (yoga mat, bolster, blanket, pillow).

Participants will be given the opportunity to reflect on a musical experience through art/and or journaling. Writing and art supplies will be provided but if you have your own journal/notebook and art materials you’d like to use, you are welcome to bring your own.

Facilitated by licensed creative arts therapist, board certified music therapist, and certified life coach Hannah Pietra.
